Artist Statement

Rebecca Schnopp's work focuses on repetitive processes and their potential to act as a gateway to a meditative state. Inserting pins or needles into objects is a time-consuming process, with physical and psychological implications that lead to broader epiphanies. This iterative ritual allows for her compulsion of skin picking as a means of dealing with anxiety to manifest in a new form, separate and not harmful to her body. Using insertion, deconstruction and reconstruction, she create forms which allow for the contemplation of the dichotomies of permanence and impermanence, life and death and, pleasure and pain.
